I've released OceanWaves, a plugin for Autodesk 3ds Max that generates animated ocean wave surfaces procedurally.
The simulation is based on the Tessendorf ocean model — the same technique used in visual effects for films such as Titanic, The Perfect Storm, and Waterworld. It generates physically plausible ocean surfaces by summing a statistical spectrum of waves in the frequency domain and using an inverse FFT to produce the final height field.
Features
- Wind-driven wave generation (direction, speed, fetch)
- Animated height field output compatible with 3ds Max geometry
- Supports Max 6 and Max 9 (32-bit)
